Continuous process
A continuous process is one in which processing happens without interruption, as opposed to batch processing.
Most refining processes are continuous (not batch) processes. An important exception is a delayed coker, where the thermal reaction is continuous, but the accumulation of coke in the coke drums is a batch process requiring the drums to be taken out of service to be emptied.
