Working capital

Working capital is the inventory of crude oil and refined products maintained in a refinery to support operations.

Working capital is an important component of the capital invested in a refinery. The volume of working capital required is a function of refinery size and the size, frequency, and variety of crude oil and refined product shipments into and out of the refinery.

As a general rule, refiners try to keep working capital to a minimum.
