Price assessment agency

Price assessment agencies are organizations that assess the going market price of commodities on a daily basis by surveying market participants and tracking transactions. These agencies publish their daily assessment of prices, and market participants use these assessments to settle contracts tied to market pricing.

For crude oil and refined products, the major price assessment agencies are Platts and Argus.
