CAFE

Also known as: Corporate Average Fuel Economy

CAFE is the motor vehicle fuel efficiency standard used in the US. The CAFE standard sets an average fuel efficiency (in miles/gallon) that US automobile manufacturers must achieve on average across the fleet of new cars and light trucks that each of them sell in a given year.

The CAFE standards are set and enforced by the EPA.
